Bose Sport Open Earbuds
Rethinking Performance Through Open Sound
The Bose Sport Open Earbuds represent Bose’s first purpose-built open-ear audio product designed specifically for sports. Originating from advanced development explorations inspired by Bose Frames and audio glasses, the project set out to deliver a similar open listening experience—without the limitations of eyewear form factors.
The challenge was both technical and operational: an ambitious concept brought to market under a tight budget and an accelerated timeline of less than a year. Working from an established architecture—battery systems and acoustic packaging defined by the advanced team—I focused on translating this complexity into a cohesive, wearable form. The goal was to create a design that feels clean, ergonomic, and aligned with Bose’s design language, while performing reliably during active use.
Ergonomics and fit were critical. Through rapid prototyping and global user testing, we gathered real-world feedback and iterated quickly—refining the geometry to ensure stability, comfort, and confidence during movement. Each iteration balanced performance requirements with human factors, shaping a form that feels secure without being intrusive.
From a manufacturing perspective, the project required disciplined execution. I led the CAD development and surface refinement, ensuring every transition remained smooth and intentional while staying within tooling constraints. By leveraging efficient part strategies and relatively simple captive-core tooling, we maintained design integrity without exceeding cost targets.
Sport Open Earbuds reflect a focused design approach—where speed, constraint, and innovation converge to deliver a new category of wearable audio that feels effortless, durable, and purpose-built for motion.
